Godaddy surpasses 50 million domain names

$1.99 Domains* at GoDaddy.com
Web hosting provider Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com) announced on Monday that it has surpassed its 50 million domain name milestone on the weekend.

Go Daddy says it is the only registrar organization to manage this many domain names.

According to the press release, the 50 millionth domain name is DBAkit.com, registered by Kranthi Kumar Kukkala of India.

Go Daddy says that for the past several years it has been registering, renewing or transferring more than one domain name every second every day.

The web hosting provider has achieved this milestone shortly after helping customers recover their sites after about 445 sites were compromised.

“Sometimes you hear people say all the good domain names are gone, but they are dead wrong,” Go Daddy CEO and founder Bob Parsons said in a statement. “An almost unlimited supply of great names is available … right now. In fact, Go Daddy is registering two-and-a-half times more domains a month now, than we were five years ago. Why? Domain names are like 21st century real estate. They allow you to own your own place on the Internet.”

In June, Go Daddy announced that it had surpassed 500,000 SSL certificates.

Go Daddy received a private equity investment worth around $2 billion in July, shortly after Parsons controversial elephant video was released.

This year also marks Go Daddy’s launch of its cloud hosting plans.
